Mark Ward

I was born and educated in Solihull, Warwickshire. I achieved a Degree in Product Design from Manchester College of Art, then worked as a product designer in Birmingham for 2 years. I then went to Kenya for 2 years where I taught various subjects and helped to build a school. I returned to UK to train as an art teacher and taught art in Essex for many years. I left teaching in 2003 and built a studio in Suffolk and have been painting full-time since then.

My paintings relate to the natural world. Most are developed from experiences of landscapes and creatures locally or in more exotic climes.
I construct stage sets in my Suffolk studio, using all sorts of rescued items. These are closely observed and painted using acrylic. The sets are lit to create drama and to emphasise the nature of the construction materials
