Living in Suffolk most of my life, consider myself a native, even though I moved to Gloucestershire several years ago. I have painted and drawn for as long as I can remember and studied a two year foundation course at Ipswich Art School, after which I learned my craft through gallery visits and the wisdom of my father, Arthur Butler, who was a fine artist.
I am at my happiest out in the fields, endlessly trying to capture the fleeting conditions – sun, wind and rain – listening to the call of the buzzards. I always work ‘plein air’. Etching is as important to me as painting, although not as immediate, but I love the process, and the almost translucent quality of the inks.
My work has been exhibited in London; the New English Art club and the Royal Portrait Society.
Suffolk; Christchurch Mansion. Women 100, at Ipswich Art School Gallery.
Cambridgeshire., The Old Fire Engine Gallery.
Gloucestershire, The Museum in the Park.
