Artist
Eva Pollard
Eva Pollard is a glass artist and designer-maker living and working in Stroud. After completing a degree in Sociology, Eva worked for many years in the voluntary sector while studying glass part time at Bristol School of Art. Since 2014, she has been a full-time professional artist specialising in kiln-formed glass. Eva creates collections of glass art, homeware and jewellery which she sells under her brand Eva Glass Design throughout the UK.
Eva's glasswork is designed to interact with natural light to bring patterns of colour to interiors, and is informed by the Japanese concept of MA – the importance of the spaces around and between things. Eva utilises principles of balance and proportion in her design processes with the aim that finished pieces bring a harmonious feel to interiors. Her chief inspirations are nature, line and colour which she explores through a variety of glass techniques and palettes.
Eva says “I first became aware of the concept of MA when reading about
garden design. It resonated with me immediately as I realised that I had been unconsciously using it in my glasswork. The backgrounds and clear areas of my designs are as important to me as their subjects, and I strive to create a harmonious and balanced relationship between the two.”
Eva's jewellery is created from specialised dichroic glass which has the
unique property of reflecting one colour while transmitting another. The
different colours can be observed by viewing from different angles. Eva
finishes all her jewellery pieces with high quality silver or silver plated fittings.
Eva is a member of the Contemporary Glass Society, Wye Valley Crafts and
Stroud Artists Cooperative.
