Reuben Hutchings

Reuben had many experiences as a ceramicist 20 years ago but recently returned to pottery on a more modest scale. Katherine adds finishing touches reflecting organic forms and natural studies.

All of Reuben's work is thrown stoneware using a blend of clay to give stability in construction and a bright lustre to the glaze and fired in an oxidising atmosphere. Reuben has developed glazes by experimenting with a range of raw materials to produce matt, satin and high gloss finishes with multi layered application.

Together they have created 'Mushi', from the Japanese meaning – "To embrace imperfections in ceramic form". We emphasise this by following the structure and complexity of nature.
