Artist's statement:
'All my life I have been entranced by art, both creating it and looking at work by world famous and other artists. I was lucky to have two practising artists as teachers at secondary school who encouraged me to take life drawing evening classes. This led me on to doing Art Foundation at Colchester School of Art and then on to Leicester Polytechnic gaining a BA(Hons) in Fine Art. After college, becoming an artist seemed an impossibility and needing to make a living, I plied my creativity in the commercial world. Working variously as a designer, illustrator and model-maker and then as a sculptor for architectural enrichment and the movies.

However the need to do my own personal work never left me and over the last ten years I have been able to gradually switch emphasis to re-engage with painting. The inspiration for my work comes mainly from the act of walking in the landscape of estuaries, rivers and coastline of East Anglia with it's drama of changing light, texture and colour. Along with the inevitable interventions by man for work or play provides me with a rich source of compositions.
Drawing has always been the basis of everything I do but I am quite happy taking multiple photographs to realise what I am after with a scene, combining elements together to make a more pleasing composition in paint back in my Colchester studio.

I am a member of Colchester Arts Society and have exhibited with them and in other regional group shows.'
