Joan Hodgkiss

Over the years her etchings have reflected an interest in coastal landscape, still life, natural history and archaeology. Joan started off as a painter and moved towards printing, coming to rest at etching. She enjoyed a two-year postgraduate printmaking course at the Slade School, London. Her work favours traditional, detailed etching methods, little changed from Rembrandt’s day. Colour usually plays a part in her work and sometimes she uses watercolour or gilding to enhance the prints. Currently she is working on a series of small paintings featuring birds eggs, old china and chintz fabric.
