I was born in Lowestoft and trained at Camberwell Art School in London. Based in various inland parts of the country, I combined a teaching career with bringing up my two children.  On retirement, I returned to live and paint in the beloved seaside town of my birth.  The sea seems to draw me like a magnet. The pounding of the waves on the shore is like the heartbeat of the World, both soothing and awe-inspiring. This Suffolk coast, with its relentlessly changing mood and vast skies, provides the unique atmosphere that I try to express in my paintings.
My starting point is a reverent fascination with the patterns of nature, a love of looking at my chosen subjects as closely as possible and the enjoyment of exploring the interplay of light, shade and colour that makes each one so special. The amazing configuration of each wave, in that split-second before it breaks, is like a human thumb-print: unique and wonderful.  The ever- shifting sky produces fleeting moments of heavenly sculpture, no artist but God could ever invent. I simply try to capture and express my wonderment of these, building up layer, upon layer of thin glazes in oils to allow the light to shine through and the colours to mix on the canvas itself.
I have exhibited and sold my work in galleries all over East Anglia, including Blackthorpe Barn, Rougham, the Peter Pears Gallery, Aldeburgh, the Pond Gallery, Snape Maltings, the Upstairs Gallery, Beccles, “Art for All”, Norwich and I am a member of Suffolk Open Studios, holding regular Open Studios at my studio and gallery in Pakefield, Lowestoft.  I exhibit regularly at the Mall Galleries, London and was one of the artists featured in ”Coastal Inspirations”, an Imago Production for Anglia TV which was shown in May 2006.
